What is Annual Heroes Run?

Annual Heroes Run is a charity fundraiser hosted by Patriot Guard Riders of New York that benefits Help On The Homefront and New York Warrior Alliance. Our event begins with a memorial ride (motorcycles and vehicles) to a dedication site where a brief ceremony honoring a hero takes place. Normally a remembrance object such as a bench, or marker is placed bearing the name of the hero. The ride then continues back to the event location for food, entertainment and raffles.

Let's Make 2019 A Success!

Last year our event raised approximately $17,500. We welcome all sponsors and the community at large to help us reach our 2019 goal of $25,000. Monies raised are used to assist our veterans and this year we are planning on expanding our PGRNY HOTH program. See How You Can Help in making this year's event even more successful than last year's!

Our 7th Annual Heroes Run Honoree

US Navy BM1 Michael J. Pernaselli

BM1 Michael J Pernaselli

February 9, 1977 - April 24, 2004

US Navy Boatswains Mate First Class (BM1) Michael J. Pernaselli. BM1 Pernaselli assigned to the Visit Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) Team aboard the USN CYCLONE CLASS (COASTAL DEFENSE SHIP) USS FIREBOLT (PC 10), was killed when an unidentified Dhow exploded, as the Team was conducting Maritime Interception Operations (MIO) in the Northern Arabian Sea.

Navy Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class (SW) Michael J. Pernaselli grew up in Brighton, N.Y., and joined the military after high school. He had previously toured the Persian Gulf and Kosovo and, in January, was sent back to the Gulf to serve on the USS Firebolt. He once excelled at splatball and was a devoted pro wrestling fan. Michael, who was divorced, had custody of his daughters, ages 3 and 4, who are living with their grandparents John & Cathy Pernaselli. When he called home a few days before his death, he just wanted to talk to his two girls and see how they're doing.

Michael died April 24, 2004 serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Michael was 27 years old.

As Patriot Guard Riders of New York was not formed until 2006, we did not have the opportunity to stand in honor for Michael at the time of his death. This is now our opportunity to honor this hero.
Thank you.

Where Do The Proceeds From Annual Heroes Run Go?

Help On The Homefront (HOTH)

Help On The Homefront (HOTH) logo

HOTH is a volunteer outreach program of Patriot Guard Riders of New York, Inc., which assists our military heroes and their families. Our veterans have earned our respect and gratitude for their selfless, heroic acts. Through our HOTH program, we can assist these heroes who may now need our help. The current program under HOTH is Veteran's Financial Assistance. This program may provide one-time financial support and assistance to U.S. Armed Forces veterans who are experiencing a hardship that is connected to a service related disability; whether due to an injury, illness and/or PTSD.

We also have dedicated members across the state who visit our disabled veterans that are confined to VA Medical Hospitals providing things such as movie nights, bingo parties, birthday parties and more. We want these veterans to know they are not forgotten.

Patriot Guard Riders of New York, Inc., is a diverse group of patriots who come together to show respect and support to US service members, veterans, first responders who die in the line of duty, and their families by standing flag lines and providing escorts at memorial services, only at the request of the family. We also stand flag line for other events honoring veterans and military personnel by request. We do not have meetings, dues, or most of the other membership requirements of other organizations. Many of our members share a love of motorcycles and many are veterans, but neither is a requirement. The only thing our members do have in common is a deep feeling of appreciation of the sacrifices that our military and first responders have made and continue to make.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and 100% volunteer organization. Any donations received go directly to members of the Armed Services, veterans, families of deployed service members, and Gold Star families in need through our (HOTH) program. A small portion of the funds raised goes to ; the families of veterans in the form of a plaque at memorial services.

New York Warrior Alliance (NYWA)

New York Warrior Alliance (NYWA) logo

The mission of New York Warrior Alliance is to support the wounded military members and their caregivers by honoring their service with donations to aide in their rehabilitation. Our funding is supported through donations that are received from the community and other non-profit organizations.

Since 2014, the Patriot Guard Riders of New York, Inc. has partnered with New York Warrior Alliance for the Annual Heroes Run. New York Warrior Alliance shares our philosophy about our veterans and their families. Both organizations are 100% volunteer and 100% of donations go directly to assisting our veterans. New York Warrior Alliance (NYWA) has gifted more than $350,000 to our wounded and their caregivers since 2008. They are the largest donor of basic essentials to the Warrior Transition Brigade at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

We Operate Solely on Donations

While our 2019 Annual Heroes Run is over, you still have the opportunity to donate. Our Help On The Homefront is an everyday mission to assist our Veterans in need. We assist our veterans solely on the generosity of individuals, support from other organizations and corporate donations. We are 100% volunteer and 100% of donations are used in helping our veterans. Please check out our Patriot Guard Riders of New York Inc. (PGRNY) website to find out all that PGRNY does; our primary mission, our HOTH program details and our Veterans Recovery Program (VRP). You may donate directly to PGRNY through our main website either by check or the PayPal link on PGRNY's website.
